Richmond Plains Riesling 2014

Richmond Plains – New Zealand

Richmond Plains winery is above all else a family affair. Run by Lars and Samantha Jensen at the top of the South Island of New Zealand. Keeping it all close allows them to make wines the way they want. And they want as minimal interference from chemicals as possible.

Their vineyard is a wild jumble of various plant-like raspberries and mushrooms and you'll find the odd insect buzzing amongst the grapevines, but everything seems to be working perfectly in harmony and their wines are a testament to their prodigious wine making skills.

For their logo, Richmond Plains chose an unfolding fern frond (or Koru) which symbolises the beginning of life and new growth and sums up this winery perfectly.

Banjo says: A perfectly poised medium-bodied style, the delicately perfumed bouquet shows white nectarines and delicious lime zest, overlaid with honeysuckle and jasmine. A lovely balance between sweetness and freshness, with some gentle honey becoming apparent on the palate, but refreshing and clean due to lifted acidity. A beautifully balanced wine – fresh, vital and tangy.

The grape type

Fruit flavours: Pineapple, Apricot, Lime, Pear, Green Apple

Other flavours: Honey, Ginger, Caramel, Red Frogs

The pairings
This Riesling is bone dry (as in not sweet), but still retains those exotic spicy Riesling flavours so it’s a great match for dishes with lots of strong herbs flavours, such as ginger and coriander.
